Fire Safety Courses

Fire Awareness

Fire Awareness training should be given to all members of staff.

To be effective it should be specific to the business so that all members of staff are prepared in what to do in the event of a fire.

Fire Warden Training Course

Depending on the size of the business employers should nominate one or more competent persons to assist them to comply with their fire safety duties.

These employees would be Fire Wardens, Fire Marshals or whatever title is given to them.

Fire Warden training is enhanced level fire safety training which to be effective should be specific to the workplace and should require the need for the practical operation and use of fire extinguishers.

Enhanced level training over that covered in fire awareness training is necessary due to the duties a fire warden accepts responsibility for.

Fire Extinguisher Training

It is a legal requirement to have extinguishers sited and installed in premises.

The type number and location is normally determined by the company that supplies and services them.

I provide fire extinguisher training:

  • As part of Fire Awareness Training where I always over the provision of fire extinguishers and if required the actual practical operation and use.
  • As part of Fire Warden Training where I cover provision, operation and use
  • Vehicle Fires Training where I specifically target the provision, operation and use of small portable extinguishers fitted in vehicles plus the normal range of extinguishers on trucks/tankers etc
  • As stand alone or refresher training purely covering provision, operation and use.

Fire Risk Assessor

I provide training and assessment services for any person wishing to complete, review or revise a Fire Risk Assessment for Low to Medium fire risk premises.

This is a LIFE SAFETY fire risk assessment that does not address the risk to property or business continuity from fire.

A fire risk assessment is an organised and methodical look at the relevant premises, the activities carried on there and the likelihood that a fire could start and cause harm to those in and around the premises.

Construction Site Fire Safety

The Construction Site Fire Safety Course will be designed specifically for those persons working on site.  The course will cover the main causes of fire or potential explosion and explain how to eliminate the hazards and control the risks.

Vehicle Fire Safety

The Vehicle Fire Safety Course will be designed specifically for those persons operating company vehicles.   The course will cover the potential causes of fire, the actions vehicle occupants should take to maintain their safety and the operation, use and limitations of vehicle fire extinguishers.

Manual Handling

Manual Handling training course will be designed to be sector specific to take account of the movement of loads either by individual effort, team effort or by the use of specific equipment.  The training is designed to comply with the relevant statutory requirements.

Abrasive Wheels

Abrasive wheels training course will be designed specifically for those persons who operate and use hand held abrasive wheels and equipment.  The course will concentrate on the selection and mounting of abrasive discs/wheels as well as the operation and use of the equipment.  Designed primarily for the construction and utility sectors the course can be tailored for all workplaces.

Cable Avoidance

Cable avoidance training course will be designed specifically for those persons responsible for the operation and use of cable avoidance tools and signal generators and will concentrate on the design, operation, use and limitations of the equipment.

COSHH

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health training.

Elements of this training are delivered as part of other training courses or can be used as stand alone training.

The elements delivered during COSHH training courses are designed to ensure that people at work on the premises do not put themselves or others at risk through exposure to substances hazardous to health.  The course will include the review and provision of COSHH Assessments.

DSEAR

Dangerous Substances Explosive Atmospheres training.

Elements of this training are delivered as part of other training courses or can be used as stand alone training.

The elements delivered during DSEAR training courses are designed to ensure that people at work on the premises understand the fire and explosion risk through the storage and use of flammable substances. The course will include will include DSEAR Assessment.

Ladder Safety

Ladder training courses are designed to ensure that all persons who use ladders and stepladders for low-risk, short-duration work have received adequate training.

The training to include;

  • Safe selection
  • Testing, care and maintenance
  • Safe, siting operation and use
  • Safe working and procedures for stepping on/off a ladder
  • Risks which such use may entail and precautions to be taken.

Confined Space Courses

Confined Space Awareness

Confined Space Awareness is a basic level course designed to cover the hazards associated with working in confined spaces.

In addition the course details the types of equipment that may be considered for use for confined space working.  It does not provide the opportunity to operate and use the equipment.

Attendance on this course does not confer competence to enter and work in a confined space.

Entry into Low Risk Confined Spaces

We provide both accredited and non-accredited Low Risk Confined Space courses.

Accredited courses are approved and certified by CABWI and City & Guilds.

Non-accredited courses are “In House” designed and delivered by ourselves.

The content of both accredited and non-accredited courses fully complies with the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS).  The training content for both types is exactly the same.  The assessment process is different.

Successful completion of this course confers competence for entry and working solely in Low Risk confined spaces as defined in the National Occupational Standard.

We provide both accredited and non-accredited Medium Risk Confined Space courses.

Accredited courses are approved and certified by CABWI and City & Guilds.

We provide both accredited and non-accredited High Risk Confined Space courses.

Rescue and Recovery from Confined Spaces

Candidates are required to be High Risk Confined Space trained and certified before acceptance on this course.

We provide both accredited and non-accredited Rescue and Recovery from Confined Space courses.

Accredited courses are approved and certified by CABWI and City & Guilds.

Non-accredited courses are “In House” designed and delivered by ourselves.

The content of both fully comply with the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS).

Successful completion of this course confers competence for entry and working as a member of a rescue and recovery team in confined spaces as defined in the NOS

Managing Confined Spaces

We provide both accredited and non-accredited Managing Confined Space courses.

Accredited courses are approved and certified by CABWI and City & Guilds.

Non-accredited courses are “In House” designed and delivered by ourselves.

The content of both accredited and non-accredited courses fully complies with the relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS).  The training content for both types is exactly the same.  The assessment process is different.

Successful completion of this course confers competence for the supervision of work in all risks of confined spaces as defined in the NOS

Rescue Harness

Rescue Harness training covering design, testing, donning, operation and use is delivered as part of other confined space training courses or can be used as stand alone training.

Other harness training courses can be arranged to cover work at height or harness test and inspection.

Tripods and Retrieval Devices

Tripod and retrieval device training covering the design, testing, operation and use of tripods, retrieval devices and associated equipment is delivered as part of other confined space training courses or can be used as stand alone training.

This training is designed for companies who use, own or rent this specialised equipment and is conducted in compliance with manufacturers instructions.

Portable gas detector training covering design, testing, calibration, operation and use is delivered as part of other confined space training courses or can be used as stand alone training.

Breathing Apparatus

Constant Flow Escape BA

This training is designed for anyone who is required to operate and use constant flow escape breathing apparatus.

We use Drager CF10 minute and CF15 minute sets for training.

Escape BA training is covered as standard in all Confined Space Entry Courses except Low Risk and Awareness.  

Companies who put their employees through Awareness or Low Risk training can use this as “Stand Alone” or top up training to a medium risk qualification.

Positive Pressure Escape BA

This training is designed for anyone who is required to operate and use positive pressure escape breathing apparatus.

This is higher standard escape BA training in that operatives need to be aware of the limitations of the equipment and the faults that can develop.

We use Drager PP10 minute and PP15 minute sets for training.

Escape BA training is covered as standard in all Confined Space Entry Courses except Low Risk and Awareness.  

Companies who put their employees through Awareness or Low Risk training can use this as “Stand Alone” or top up training to a medium risk qualification.

Oxygen Re-breathers

This training is designed for anyone who is required to operate and use oxygen re-breather respiratory protection equipment.

Oxygen re-breather training is covered as standard in Medium Risk Confined Space Entry Courses.

Full Duration or Working BA

This training is designed for anyone who is required to operate and use full duration or working breathing apparatus.

We use Drager PA94 series and Drager PSS3000 series sets for training.

Full duration or working BA training is covered as standard in all High Risk Confined Space Entry Courses. 

Full duration training can be used as stand alone training as a means of upgrading a Medium Risk qualification to High Risk.

Supplied Air Respirators

This training is designed for anyone who is required to operate and use supplied air respiratory protection equipment such as the MSA Turbo-Flo with either assisted or unassisted operation.

Supplied air respirator training is covered as standard in High Risk Confined Space Entry Courses or can be delivered as “Stand Alone” training.

Breathing Apparatus Airline Equipment

This training is designed for anyone who is required to operate and use breathing apparatus airline equipment.

We use Drager twin cylinder airline equipment for training.

BA Airline Equipment training is covered as standard in High Risk Confined Space Entry Courses or can be delivered as “Stand Alone” training.

Breathing Apparatus Control Procedures

This training is designed for anyone who is required to control the safe operation and use of full duration breathing apparatus.

BA Control Procedures training is covered as standard in all High Risk Confined Space Entry Courses and Full Duration and Working BA Courses. It would be recommended as “Stand Alone” training for “On Site” refresher training.

Chemical Protection Training

This training is complimentary to the COSHH and DSEAR training listed above and is covered in four distinct courses which can be mix and matched to suit your needs.  The courses are:
